Asher Roth releases statement

As of late, statements I’ve made have been stirring up much controversy and speculation. It is in my best interest that I feel I should address these instances personally and specifically. Truth: I am 23 year old imperfect human being who’s world is drastically changing around him. Facebook is no longer for just me and my friends. Twitter is no longer solely for the watchful eye of my parents. A new responsibility and voice has been placed upon me and is being heard well beyond my immediate peers. I’ve been receiving a crash course on perspectives and a very real sensitivity that exists and is an essential part of our world. With that, I’d like to sincerely apologize for any words that have been misinterpreted and may have offended any man, woman or child.

The twitter situation was an immature attempt to poke fun at an infamously moronic joke. In doing so, I unconsciously stooped to the level of its originator, making it just as bad, if not worse. Pathetic. Lesson learned - nothing good can come from repeating hateful words, regardless of your intentions. Leaving no context in what was being said and being presented through text (no facial or vocal inflection) the sarcasm of the joke (or lack there of) was not properly perceived and left it purely in bad taste. I immediately apologized for my immaturity but the apologies and original post were deleted by my team in an effort to prevent more people from being offended. Unfortunately, the deletion of these statements led several people to believe that my apology was insincere, which is why I have made the decision to release this statement.

The latest quote on giving back was in response to a question about rappers and their money posed to me by the interviewer. With the question and entire vibe of the conversation not being present in the article, when my statement came out in print it appeared as if I was taking black rappers to task randomly. Not the case. Although I do feel strongly about giving back when we are in a position of power and prosperity, it is not my place to talk about what others should do with their lives. Lesson learned: talk about what you know. You can call them mistakes, I call them life lessons. It is my duty as a human being to choose my words carefully, for I am a kind soul who puts a lot of stock in the progess of humans. I am a work in progress, as we all are and I will take this opportunity to learn and grow. Its bigger than an apology, its an understanding.

Moving forward, I hope we can all take some perspective and guidance from the dialogue that has emerged from these situations. I know I already have and will continue to do so.

Onward and upward

With love,

Asher Roth

Honestly the thing never even bothered me. I think people take stuff too seriously these days, but everybody doesn’t have the same sense of humor. Anyway its good to see he finally came out and addressed it. Read more

Eminem interview with Angela Yee

I was up waitin for this...then I started watchin Degrassi. Waitin on that 3AM to drop. Here's a play-by-play of the interview.

Respects T.I., Wayne, etc. Says that he would work with Wayne (just hasn’t had the time). Dre did the entire album (with the help of Em on We Made You; Em did one other). He picked beats that challenged him (rhythm wise). Every flow is different over unique beats. 3AM (and the album) is on a different vibe of the single. He’s censoring himself less this time around. States that he’s still Eminem (but Slim Shady is back). Relapse 2 will be out at the end of the year (if not finished, it’s extremely close to being done). 50 & Dre are the only guests on Relapse.

Charles Hamilton "At Most I'm Just..." (TWITTER IS THE BEST THING SINCE SHOESTRINGS!)

the reason why i love twitter so much is because you can have a conversation with stars. Charles Hamilton is one of the stars i follow on Twitter. and he posted the link to this mixtape in one of his tweets (tweet (n) - a post on twitter that lets your followers know what you are doing at the time you post it.) i've noticed that a lot of CH's mixtapes have certain themes

"Every Charles Hamiton Ex-Girlfriend's Worst Nightmare" (808's & Heartbreak Samples)
"Well Isn't This Awkward..." (R&B Samples)
and "At Most I'm Just..." has a lot of Rock samples (i'm guessing they're from Incubus because he likes them...but i don't know)

Charles Hamiton..."Beat Jacker"

now i am a HUGE CH fan. the way he makes music is incredible to me and his samples are always amazing. but recently...some guy i've never heard of (Black Spade?) is saying Charles Hamilton stole the beat for "Shinin'" which is on "The Pink Lavalamp"

but anyway...Black Spade says Charles took the beat either from a beat tape or straight off his MySpace page. i don't know what to believe because i don't know if Spade stole it from CH or if CH stole it from Spade. but nonetheless...the beat/song is dope! so i frankly do NOT care. but for people who do care...here's the e-mail from Spade where he talks about this "jacking"

"Yo! So this is the beat Charles Hamilton CLAIMS he created. In short, when I was in Austin to perform and check out SxSW, I caught his set. He performed one of his tracks, "Shinin'", which I thought was dope. However, come to find out the instrumental that he used for that track is a beat I produced a while back. After he was done performing, I let him know that I produced the beat and asked him where he got it from. In the back of my mind I know that the only place he really could have gotten it from was off my MySpace page. When I told him I produced the track and liked his lyrics, he still continued to say that HE produced the track with some dude....FALSE. He said he cleared the sample and that he is the one singing 'Shinin' in the background and also that his homeboy was playing the keys on the track.

Now mind you, the background 'Shinin' vocals that he claims he laid were not laid in the studio at all. I know this because I sampled them by singing directly into the MPC.

Basically, the Frankie Beverly & Maze sample at the beginning is from when I put the beat up on MySpace. The whole point of putting that part in the track was to show that I was about to produce, from that part, my own version of the sample. So, if you don't hear the Frankie Beverly & Maze sample in the MP3 I am sending you, that is why."
